The unique “concept shop,” which opened a decade ago, is known for offering a curated selection of stylish finds for ones beauty shelf, home and wardrobe. Recently, the boutique expanded its services to include interior design services.

We caught up with Carey Hulshof, creative director and founder of the store, to learn more:

Q: For those who aren’t familiar, what is Secret Location?

A: Opened in 2012 in the heart of Gastown, Vancouver, and credited as Canada’s first luxury concept store, Secret Location is a concept store and design studio. We offer a perspective on luxury that embraces diverse styles, high quality craftsmanship, responsible production and sustainability — all presented in a friendly high-service manner. Our name has always been a point of conversation — and deliberately so. Named to ensure our clients, whether introduced to us in-store or online, have no preconceived notions; allowing their experience with Secret Location to be uniquely theirs. We’ve developed a loyal clientele who value our eye for creative and unique design, all while focusing on transparency and quality production.

Q: How has the space/business evolved in recent years?

A: Secret Location has always had an adaptable approach to our offering, constantly looking for new and innovative brands to introduce to our clients. While initially known for our selection of highly curated fashion brands, in the past few years, we’ve continued to expand our selection of lifestyle products and homewares. This includes everything from beautiful home decor, a large selection of books, beauty products and much much more.

Q: What can you share about the new interior design services?

A: Our new interior design services bring together the values that we share with our clients, our network of skilled craftspeople and producers, and our distinctive creative eye and experience. Our clients can now hire us for full-service luxury design for both commercial and residential spaces. These services are available globally, and we currently have projects ranging across North America and Europe. We now bring the magic that makes our in-store experience so unique, right into your spaces, with a carefully curated selection of responsibly produced decor and design.

Q: The shop also has its own in-house products. What more can you share about these?

A: Over the years, we have had the privilege of working closely with brands from around the world all while continuing to expand our understanding of sustainability. We’ve decided to apply our knowledge and expertise to design a range of in-house products. Just like our store offering and our new interior design services, our in-house products fully capture the values we’ve championed since our inception. These collections range from clothing, home decor, to accessories, and more. Expect quite a few exciting drops to come later this year.

Q: What is the price range for the products?

A: The price point will vary depending on the product type, but like the rest of our store offering, we ensure that the prices reflect the value of each product. Designed by our team in Vancouver, we’ve partnered with craftspeople and factories around the world that prioritize sustainable materials and production, without compromising on quality or design.

Q: And, lastly, where can people learn more/check them out?

A: For additional information about our ethos, services, and our online store, you can visit us at secretlocation.ca.
