House of the Week: Renovated Chittenango home has it all, including 17 acres, energy-saving solar panels, and its own air strip

CHITTENANGO, N.Y. – Moving into a house gives the new owner a chance to make it their own.

When Jordan Kempisty, and her husband, Ryan McManus, first visited the house at 6251 Perryville Road, built on 17 beautiful acres on a hill near Chittenango, she was “amazed by its beauty.”

“Oh, God,” she remembered thinking to herself. “This is the one.”

The four-bedroom, three-bathroom house, with almost 4,000 square feet of living space, offered her an opportunity to explore her passion of home design and decorating.

Shortly after the couple purchased the house in 2019, they “got right to it,” and started a renovation project to modernize it.

“We wanted to open it up for our kids and for entertaining,” she said.

Taking their time, they tackled “one project at a time.” When they finished earlier this year in March, they had made over $200,000 in improvements on the home, which was originally built in 2007.

The family room was opened up to take advantage of the wall of windows, which lets in so much sunlight, and to give the first floor a “better flow.”

The room’s mantel piece was made by Kempisty herself.

The kitchen was expanded and updated with new General Electric appliances, a pot filler, glass rinser, and an extended island.

Beautiful new Brazilian oak floors were installed on the first floor.

The front foyer’s oak staircase was given all-new treads and a new rod railing.

“It is a really unique piece,” she said. “It really catches the eye.”

The first-floor master suite was completely renovated, with a huge walk-in closet by California Closets, redone tile, new glass shower doors, and a floating vanity.

The bedroom was painted a relaxing dark green which accentuates the 12-foot high trayed ceiling and electric fireplace.

The walk-out basement was finished, adding an additional 1,200 square feet of space. There is a theater room, playroom, exercise space, and has room for a potential bedroom and bathroom.

Kempisty proudly said that their changes made the already stunning home even “more beautiful.” She also thinks that the new owners could easily adapt it to their own tastes.

“Anyone could decorate it and make it their own,” she said.

The property’s biggest addition fed off another passion of its owners, who work in the solar energy industry.

Custom solar panels were installed on the grounds which offset 108% of their electric usage.

(She feels that the home’s new owners would potentially see an even bigger savings, since they probably would not be “running power tools” all the time.)

The property is great for anyone who love to be outdoors.

The grounds are full of ATV and hiking trails and hunting stands.

Her children love to play on the huge backyard playground set.

Entertaining outside is easy under a custom pergola with outdoor fireplace, which burns wood and has a propane attachment.

Kempisty jokes that she has “gotten into birdwatching” while viewing birds from the back deck.

She also finds it “really cool” to watch something else in the sky.

The property comes with partial ownership of the Luthor Airship landing strip and their neighbor takes off and lands quite a bit in his plane there.

After doing so much work, Kempisty admits it is hard to leave this “very unique” and “very beautiful” property.

But she and her husband are excited about building a new house near Clay, where they will be closer to family, on ground that has been in the family for over 100 years.
